September, I’m ready for you

Hi everyone 🤍

August was a very local month for me. No travel, no big adventures –  just Texas heat, kids, yoga, and trying to keep some kind of routine going.

The heat has been intense. Going outside with kids feels almost impossible right now, so we’ve been sticking to indoor places most of the time. Even our backyard pool somehow feels cold unless you get in very early in the morning.

Meanwhile, school is back, and life is getting organized around schedules again –  activities for my younger daughter, custody schedule with my 8yo son who lives primarily in Austin (I drive there a lot), preparing my 16yo girl for her driving test (time flies), yoga, barre, bunch of  appointments, and all the usual chaos.

I’m continuing my Ashtanga practice, and my upper back and the area around my scapulas have been permanently sore lately. My teacher keeps telling me, “That’s a good sign.” So… I’m trusting the process.

At the same time, I’ve come back to 10 minutes of resonance breathing every day –  just slowing everything down and giving myself a chance to wind down after some pretty intense days of vigorous practice.

It’s such a simple routine, but I’m realizing how much I need that quiet counterbalance.

I’ve also been paying more attention to my knees –  working on mobility, strength, traction, and some yoga therapy exercises. Nothing dramatic, just trying to take better care of my joints and make sure they can keep carrying me through all the things I want to do.

And there are a couple of things on the horizon for Transforma:

I’m thinking about expanding my online class schedule a little.

Right now, we have Power Flow every Wednesday at noon CT, plus a 30-minute Skill Lab every week or two, where we focus on one specific posture, movement, or skill.

I’m considering adding something more flexibility-focused as well. Still figuring out exactly what it will look like, but I’m excited to keep building it.

So that’s my August.

Nothing particularly glamorous. Just a lot of heat, a lot of routine, a lot of yoga –  and slowly getting ready for a new season.

September, I’m ready for you.
